The EUA Energy & Environment Platform will participate by organising an Energy Talk on "Interdisciplinary Education, Training and Research at European Universities” during the EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) 2018 in Brussels (Belgium).
The Energy Talk will be given by Dr Douglas Halliday, Durham University, on 7 June, from 11:00 to 11:30. This Energy Talk aims to contribute to the EUSEW objectives by discussing the role of universities to engage in new policy developments, share best practices on interdisciplinary education and research, and sustainable energy ideas at the European level.
A starting point of the Energy Talk will be the presentation of the report: “Energy Transition and the Future of Energy Research, Innovation and Education: An Action Agenda for European Universities” (EUA 2017). The Action Agenda report, an outcome of the UNI-SET project (2014-2017), is a strategic document providing guidelines for universities and policymakers for the update of energy education and research programmes. It lists practical recommendations on how to integrate the newest and innovative learning and teaching methods into energy-related courses and programmes. It also provides a list of skills addressing the skills-gap between university provision and the needs from the industrial sector.
During the Energy Talk, Dr Halliday will discuss the recommendations issued in the Action Agenda report and actively engage with the participants. Participants will be invited to reflect on how to integrate the recommendations in their respective institutions and foster collaboration among universities, industry and society in the development of innovative university programmes.
